KOMODO DRAGONS MAKE PUBLIC DEBUT AT THE PHOENIX ZOO

PHOENIX - November 11, 2009 –Today, the Phoenix Zoo will open Land of the Dragons, the zoo’s largest and most highly anticipated animal exhibit in recent years. With multiple viewing areas in a tropical setting, the unique exhibit will house two full-grown Komodo dragons, the world’s largest lizard species.

Phoenix Zoo’s $20 million Capital Campaign

PHOENIX (November 4, 2009) – It’s no fairy tale: the Phoenix Zoo announces the grand opening of Land of the Dragons, one of the most highly anticipated exhibit experiences resulting from the zoo’s Capital Campaign, which began in late 2008. Guests will not encounter mythical creatures, but instead will meet members of the world’s largest lizard species, the Komodo dragon. Featuring a wide range of viewing opportunities in a natural tropical setting, Land of the Dragons will open to the public on November 11, 2009, with a private preview for donors on November 5.

of excitement lurking around the corner

PHOENIX (November 4, 2009) – For the last several weeks, you may have seen the eye of a strange creature staring at you menacingly from billboards and buses around the Valley. It came with a warning: It’s Coming. Now, a sharp claw has appeared, re-emphasizing that something is indeed on its way, “claws, teeth, and all.” What is this ominous creature, and why is it coming to Phoenix?

Phoenix Zoo set to open Komodo dragon exhibit,
built with capital campaign funds

PHOENIX (November 5, 2009) – Dragons are invading the Phoenix Zoo in a new $1 million permanent exhibit that opens to the public Nov. 11. The two Komodo dragons, Geia and Ivan, will star in exhibit space on the west side of the lake on the Tropics trail.

The zoo began a capital campaign last year with a goal of raising $20 million by 2012. It has raised a little under $10 million so far, said spokeswoman Lauren Strait, and “Land of the Dragons” is the first exhibit to be completed using funds from that campaign.
